If when you think of bulletproof automobile glass, and the images that come to mind are the president, or other important political figures, military personnel, police, rappers, movie stars, etc.  Then you would be correct.  Bulletproof auto glass is hard to come by because it is custom-made and not easily replaceable like a normal windshield.

Bulletproof windshields are designed to stop one or many rounds of bullets whereas bullets will penetrate through regular glass and shatter upon impact.  However, the strength of bulletproof glass depends on its thickness.  It is laminated, just like regular glass, but the two pieces of glass that hold together an inner layer of polycarbonate is specialized.  The glass pieces are thicker and the polycarbonate is designed with more advanced technology, and it is actually the polycarbonate that stops a bullet if it goes through the first layer of glass.

It is possible to order a full equipped, custom-made bulletproof car.  Beside the glass, the car’s panel system is a combination of high tech resistant materials for the roof, front, rear and all sides, thus giving you one hundred percent coverage.  In fact, in the 1920′s famous gangster Al Capone had two of his own bulletproof cars.  Nowadays, a vehicle with such extensive protection could cost you around $100,000 and up.  Being extra safe comes with a price.

Replacement glass or windshield repair for bulletproof auto glass is custom-made and is subject to strict regulations by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).  At TeleGlass, we also comply with FMVSS for even the simplest auto glass repair.  If you have any questions about specialized auto glass repair or windshield repair, we’d be happy to answer them here at TeleGlass.com.

This scenario has happened to many drivers.  You’re to rushing work, a few minutes late already, and are about to hop in your car when you notice something is wrong.  Auto glass is strewn on the sidewalk, sticking to the soles of your shoes.  You then realize it’s your car and your automobile glass.

Car vandalism is a serious crime; therefore, make sure to call the police immediately and have an officer come to the scene to make a report.  The next step is to call your insurance company so you can have the incident on record.  Whether it’s a broken windshield or window, do not touch it, since the glass’s jagged edges may seriously injure your hand.  Perhaps the most important rule, which many people forget, is to stay calm.  There is no need for panic, unfortunately the crime is done and over and the only thing you can do now is follow the appropriate steps.

If you have been vandalized, most likely you’ll be in need of a windshield repair or other auto glass repair.  The next step is to find a trusted glass repair company, such as TeleGlass.  We provide additional assistance by working with the insurance company on your behalf by filing claims and handling paperwork.  We can also save you a lot of hassle by sending out our mobile service van.  Our highly trained technicians will come to your home and fix anything from cracks in windshields to installing full replacement glass.   Often times, it takes thirty minutes or less for us to service your car, and depending on the time, you can make an auto glass appointment as early as the very same day.

When riding with a pet, you may think it’s as simple as putting your animal in the backseat and opening a window.  However, pet safety should be a priority, especially in regard to auto glass.  Dogs especially love to roam around the interior of cars, looking out the front windshield or sticking their heads out of a vent windows.  This practice may seem fun and cute, yet it could be dangerous.   In fact, horror writer Stephen King was struck by a driver who could not restraint his pet while driving.

The first step to pet safety is to consider purchasing a type of restraint device.  For dogs, you can buy a harness which holds the animal in place and attaches to the seatbelt.  Another viable option for both dogs and cats is a carrier, which restrain the animal completely.  Believe or not, for small dogs, booster seats are available, similar to a child’s, they lift up the dog so s/he can see out the window or windshield, and a seatbelt fastens across the dog’s body.

Make sure the next time you take a drive, for your safety and theirs, strap your pet in.  And as always if your auto glass is damaged, contact us here at TeleGlass.  We are happy to replace your windshield, any needed windshield repairs or any other auto glass repair you may need.

You’re on the highway, listening to the radio and driving along then BOOM!  You hear a definite crack somewhere and then you see it.  A small sharp stone slammed into your windshield and then bounced back onto the road.  It’s not a big deal, you think, another thing to deal with but later on as you inspect the damage, you realize that the crack keeps getting bigger and you’re going to need a windshield repair.

This incident happens to the best of us. In fact the odds are that everyone who drives a car will need to get the windshield replaced at least once.

Other scenarios include driving behind a truck with or without a tarp that is carrying gravel.  The truck hits a bumps and gravel shoots out of the back, pelting windshields and creating hazardous conditions.  You probably think that an auto glass repair isn’t necessary.  But, in fact, it probably is.

If your automobile glass remains cracked, broken or damaged in any way, there is a huge possibility that it can spread.  This could lead to replacement glass, a more costly option, instead of a simple repair.  Therefore, continuing to leave the glass damaged is not a viable option.  The best thing to do in this situation is to limit your driving and call and/or schedule an appointment with an auto glass company, such as Teleglass, immediately.  In the meantime, do not touch the glass unnecessarily except to put a piece of clear tape over the crack.  Also, do not slam your doors or expose your car to dramatic changes in temperature, both of which could cause further damage and risk a more extensive glass repair.

Teleglass can send our highly trained service technicians to the convenience of your home, and your auto glass will be fixed and ready to go in thirty minutes or less.

distracted-driverI was expecting a very important e-mail this morning. I waited as long as I could, but it didn’t come before I needed to leave for work. I’m connected to my e-mail account on my cell phone, so when I left for work I turned on the audible e-mail alert and hit the road.

Scary, huh?

Not really. Ten minutes later, my mobile device chimed, and I pulled into a parking lot, where I parked my car, and then checked my e-mail. It was the communication I was waiting for, which I was able to reply to in the safety of a parked car in a marked parking space. I turned the audible notification off, and hit the road. I even made it to work safely.

I’m writing about it today because Maine just passed a pretty extensive law outlawing distracted driving. That doesn’t just mean your cell phone, it means anything you do behind the wheel that could be reasonably construed to distract a driver from his or her primary task – the safe operation of their motor vehicle. That means you with the Big Mac, newspaper, or mascara, too!

Before anyone starts in on the idea that those who would curtail liberties in the pursuit of safety deserving neither, I will point out that driving is not considered a right in the United States. It’s a privilege. Having said that, I will agree that the law’s wording is pretty vague, and there could be issues of interpretation and application in the near future for Maine.

Whether you’re in Maine, or any other part of the country, if you need a quote for your auto glass repair, don’t hesitate to give us a try.

For me, I knew I was getting older when driving at night was no longer fun and has since become dreaded. Almost anything at night is scary by nature.  We are taught that monsters and the boogeyman “go bump in the night” as small children.  As we grow up and realize that all of this is fictional, other concerns take over at night, especially that of night driving.  There are many precautions to be taken to avoid car crashes, especially if you are a new driver or teenager driver who does not have a lot of night driving experience.

Though it seems obvious, the first thing is to drive alert and awake.  Falling asleep behind the wheel is a serious cause of car accidents in this country, and a major source of damage to vehicles such as auto glass repair, windshield repair or full replacement glass.  A glass repair is fixable; however, a driver’s head smashing into a windshield may not be.  Use your judgment.  If you are so exhausted that you cannot drive, then don’t. Get a good night’s sleep and wait until the morning.  If you must drive, drink caffeine or eat something with high caffeine content such as dark chocolate.  Crack open windows for fresh, cool air and avoid putting on the heater, which allows for fatigue.

Experts also say to keep your eyes moving, constantly scanning for flashes of light that indicate oncoming cars.  Make sure to keep your auto glass, including windshields and windows, and headlights clean, thus decreasing glare and increasing efficiency.  To avoid glare as much as possible, do not look directly into oncoming headlights.  If you are driving with an extremely pitted windshield, it may be time to consider a replacement as the pitting can actually exagerate the glare.

Finally, make sure to be a courteous night driver.  Avoid using high beams with oncoming traffic.  For the other driver, the beams shine through their automobile glass and blind them temporarily.  And in fog, though you may think you need high beams, it is the opposite.  Use your low beams so other drivers can see as well.

bug-on-windshield

It’s a swelteringly hot day, you’re sweating profusely and the sun is baking your skin.  You’re finally done washing your car and ready to jump in and take it for a spin.  Then you begin to notice a herd of tiny bugs plastered to your windshield already.  They’re stuck, completely immobile and destroying all of the previous hard work you put into cleaning your vehicle.  You think, why does this always happen?

It seems that clean auto glass attracts insects to your windshield.  There are a few tips that we can provide here at TeleGlass to ensure bug-free windshields.  The first thing you need to know is wax is the key ingredient to fighting off those pesky buggers.  Wax creates a barrier from any critters invading the automobile glass.  After thoroughly washing your vehicle, apply a layer of wax to your windshield.  This will prevent any type of unwanted buildup.  The next step, which professionals always recommend, is to change your windshield wipers once a year so you’re not constantly spreading insect remains on the glass.  If you have a truck or SUV, you can invest in a bug deflector (or bug shield), which slips onto the front of the hood and prevents not only insects, but other road debris as well.  It is a good investment for protection against chips or cracks, which might lead to a windshield repair or full replacement glass.

In a messy bug situation, before you wash your car, it is best to apply a cleaner or degreaser specifically designed to remove bugs.  Wait a little while for the solution to break down the grime and then proceed to wash.  Home remedies also include applying vinegar or seltzer to your windshield to wipe off the insects quickly and efficiently.

Here at TeleGlass, we try to help our customers prevent an auto glass repair before it happens.  However, if you are in need of a glass repair, we’re only a click of a mouse away!

I would guess there probably isn’t anyone who doesn’t fear being involved in a car accident.  The sound of crushing steel combined with the discordance of auto glass is an experience we’d rather live without.  We’ve all heard the stories.  My car rolled over six times onto the other side of the highway and I walked away with only minor injuries.  How is that possible?

Luckily for us we live in a day and age when personal safety is of utmost importance. Especially in an automobile. I remember when I was growing up, sitting in the way back of my mom’s station wagon hanging my feet out the back window and I certainly wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. Now, it is well documented, seatbelts are the best tool to keep all passengers the safest in your vehicle, but it’s only part of it. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) publishes the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) that manufacturers must meet in order for their vehicles to be legally sold in the United States. The ones related to windshields are FMVSS #205 (“Glazing Materials”) and FMVSS #212 (“Windshield Mounting”). You can find the standards here, both FMVSS205 and FMVSS212. The connection is that seat belts, air bags and your windshield all work together to keep you in your vehicle in the case of a rollover accident and specifically it is the windshield that keeps the roof from caving in on you.

Now these standards are enforced when a new car rolls off the assembly line, but remember there are no mandatory standards for any auto glass company replacing that factory sealed windshield.  At TeleGlass.com we take your safety very seriously and our members are committed to safety and adheres to the only voluntary auto glass replacement safety standards in our country (AGRSS).

If you must have auto glass repair work done, it is best to consult a trusted glass repair company such as TeleGlass.  Before installation of the replacement glass, make sure the company has thoroughly explained (or listed on their website) their policies and guarantees for windshield safety.
Please contact TeleGlass today for windshield repair and any replacement issues with your auto glass.

It’s a common story.  It’s a beautiful day, southern California temperatures and an endless blue sky.  You turn onto a busy street.  As you’re making the turn, you feel a thump against your car.  What is that, you ask yourself?  Luckily, it’s only a stray trash can set too far from the curb.  Yet your heart is still in your throat because you never saw it in the way.

Sun glare is a serious danger, and many of us do not understand how serious.  Sadly enough, many deaths from pedestrians and passengers alike have been attributed to this problem.  Sun glare begins with the windshield, and the auto glass.  Today windshields are aerodynamically designed to give a sleek, flawless appearance.  Due to this design, the dashboard enlarges, causing reflection.  As noted by the news program 20/20, when manufacturers use a light color for the dashboard to match the upholstery, it creates an even bigger problem.  When a windshield against a light-colored dashboard was tested by a 20/20 reporter, the driver’s view looked clear through the automobile glass.  But when he put a dark material over the light-colored dashboard, a child suddenly appeared in the driver’s vision.  Scary, we know.

At TeleGlass we pride ourselves on helping our customers prevent an auto glass repair, full replacement glass, or the worst scenario of bodily harm.  Therefore, here are some tips to stop sun glare.  The first is to get polarized glasses, easily bought online or even at your local mall or golf shop.  Polarized lenses are special because they can cut through glare, as opposed to regular glasses which cannot.  If you have a light-colored dashboard, you can discuss how to reduce glare with your local body shop.

TeleGlass cares about your safety first and foremost.  For more information about a windshield repair or any other auto glass repair, you can reach us anytime via the click of a mouse or 1-888-479-9590.

windshield-chipIn today’s installment of Ask TeleGlass, we’re taking a question from the Web about the quality of windshield repairs. Duke, who used another shop asked,

How good is the windshield repair process. I have a chip like a watermelon pit. The guy came out and it looks?

It looks worse now. I thought they virtually make it “NEW” again. It is a small chip. I think the guy just didnt know how to do the process.

Duke has a common question, so we thought we’d take a stab at it.
