Usually when we think of auto glass or windshields, we think “windshield repair” or maybe full replacement glass, but never a cause of blindness. However, that is exactly what is happening to one Illinois man, who was driving on the wrong road at the wrong time.
According to WLS-TV Chicago, owned by ABC, in a story named, “Ice shatters windshield, injures man’s face” by Karen Jordan, Peter Morano, a man from a suburb of Chicago, may lose sight in one eye due to a freak accident. As Morano was driving to work in early January 2010, snow and ice slid off a semi-truck and smashed directly into his windshield. The result was not a simple auto glass repair. Instead, Morano suffered broken facial bones, a broken nose, stitches and yet the most harrowing consequence is that he may not see out of his left eye again.
The truck most likely did not know what occurred, according to Morano, thus it kept on driving. In a sea of blood and automobile glass, and fighting through horrifying pain, a group of good Samaritans helped Morano, even comforting his wife at the hospital. The less severe injuries are healing; however, doctors will not know for six months if Morano can ever see out of his left eye again. Overall though, Peter Morano and his wife are just happy he’s alive.
