What’s the best way to defrost your auto glass in the morning? Imagine this scenario. You’re about to leave your house and it is freezing cold. You dread those extra fifteen minutes each morning waiting for your car to heat up. There is an easy solution to your problem. Try a remote starter.
Remote starters are used to preheat cars in the winter and pre-cool cars in the summer. A remote starter is a small device that allows you to turn on the car from usually around 1000 feet away. It is excellent for the winter months, since you can start your car ten to fifteen minutes before getting in. Additionally, your windshield will not go through that awkward fogging phase while driving . Instead, the automobile glass will have already cleared by the time you get in the vehicle.
Installing a remote starter is simple. There are no wires. Also, most starters come with keyless entry options, in other words, you can unlock and unlock your doors from 1000 feet away. Some starters even come with panic buttons for safety. Other features can include: a remote to pop the trunk, car finder function and a remote to control headlights.
Here at TeleGlass, we think remote starters are a great idea to keep warm and safe and your auto glass clear. However, if you do have a crack in the windshield and are in need of a glass repair, please contact us today. Windshields are our specialty. For a windshield repair, our highly skilled technicians will fix your auto glass quickly and efficiently. We guarantee it. So please visit TeleGlass.com and check us out!

Living in New England, I know that winter can be a terrifying time to drive. Trying to steer while on black ice coupled with snow barreling into your windshield can make for a dangerous experience. This winter, however, you can finally be prepared by creating a windshield safety kit.
To begin the kit would include a durable rain repellant or auto glass treatment specially designed to improve a driver’s ability to see clearly through rain and ice. The sign of a good repellant will cause the rain to bead up and roll off the automobile glass. The chemical bond should also prevent snow and ice from sticking to windshields. Before going to work in the morning, you should be able to wipe the ice off your glass instead of scraping it.
The second thing in your kit should be a weatherproof tarp, if you do not store your car in a garage, or leave your car exposed to the elements in an outdoor parking lot while at work. A tarp or windshield cover will prevent the build up of snow and ice on your car’s glass. A windshield cover has straps that wrap around the car doors and hold it in place, and it can be easily purchased at an auto parts shop.
Lastly, make sure you have plenty of wiper fluid in order to clean dirt and debris off your windshield. This is an essential part of windshield safety, since leftover debris could cause a chip or crack, which could lead to an auto glass repair or full replacement glass.
At TeleGlass, we hope that glass repairs are something that can be avoided. Yet if you are in need of a windshield repair or another type of glass repair, you can contact us right here at TeleGlass.com.

Back in 1903, a woman named Mary Anderson patented the first successful cleaning device for windshields.
On a fateful visit to New York City, she noticed that cable car operator was leaving his front window open in order to see during a sleet storm. As she sat in the trolley watching this scene unfold, a light bulb came on. She soon designed a device that swung an arm comprised of wood, metal and rubber that we recognize today as a wiper blade. Her device was capable of clearing rain, sleet, or snow. The driver controlled the windshield wiper with a lever on the inside of the car. This invention has prevented a plethora of auto glass repair, replacement glass, windshield repair, and even bodily harm. Though one of the greatest inventions in automobile glass safety and the automotive industry overall, Anderson’s patent expired in 1920. Prior to that she rarely received any royalties; perhaps because her patent specified that it was intended for use in “electric motor cars.”
As a father to two girls, I admit to a bit of a thrill when I found her patent application on the US Patent Office’s web site, which begins as follows:
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, MARY ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Birmingham, in the county of Jefferson and State of Alabama, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Window-Cleaning Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The drawings above are from Mary’s patent application, which was issued patent number 743,801. She died at the age of 87 in Tennessee. Her contributions in vehicle glass repair prevention were substantial.

At TeleGlass we hope you all had a great Thanksgiving holiday, and wish you the best for the upcoming holidays in December. Here’s the TeleGlass top five for this week; which are the things people were searching for when they found their way onto our site. We give thanks for your support and every day that we can perform a new auto glass replacement and repair. In case you need to know, the place to go is Teleglass. com. We have a bit of a potpourri this week, along with a windshield trivia Question thrown in.
1. Chimsel – This is a little off on the spelling but chimsel or CHMSL is pronounced (Chim sel.) The acronym stands for Center High Mounted Safety Light, it is the additional brake light that is mandated by federal law. This is mounted at eye level in the rear windshield on all vehicles produced since 1987. The CHMSL is often integrated into, or in direct contact with the backlite.
2. Auto glass door to door salesman – We are not sure how far they could get. A replacement windshield is not the lightest thing to carry, never mind walk around with and then ring doorbells. This might be in reference to the creepy windshield stalkers that approach you in the parking lot of your favorite retail establishments.
3. That’s us! A service-oriented provider of end-to-end glass claims solutions. TeleGlass National has administered auto glass claims for insurance carriers throughout the country for over a decade.
4. Buick LaCrosse – Maybe someone is doing some last minute holiday shopping? The Buick LaCrosse is a mid-size sedan from GM. The model was the successor to the Buick Century and Buick Regal. It was introduced in the 2005 model year. This is just one of the many vehicles windshields that TeleGlass can repair or replace.
5. Windshield wipers slapping time – A little windshield music trivia coming up? Can anyone remember the famous song? And who wrote and who sang it the most popular version? Check out this windshield music trivia post to find out the answer.

The TeleGlass Top Five
This week we are introducing the The TeleGlass Top Five. Each week we will give a quick round up of some of the more interesting and odd search terms related to Auto Glass Repair and Windshield Repair that have lead users to Seeing Clearing – The Auto Glass Blog.
Here’s This Week’s TeleGlass Top Five
- How much force does it take to break a windshield?
- Leaky windshields
- Acoustic auto glass
- 1934 ford windshield repair
- New windshield care
1. How much force does it take to break a windshield? – This is an important question often asked and answered by auto glass professionals, stunt men and car thieves across the country. Stay tuned for the answer in an upcoming TeleGlass video episode as we try different methods of breaking and repairing auto glass.
2. Leaky windshields – this is a condition that occurs often with older windshields, but it is not always something that’s easy to admit. It’s a very personal matter. Sometimes windshields leak and when it’s time for a windshield to go – it’s time to go.
3. Acoustic auto glass – face it some auto glass sounds better than others. What makes a windshield “acoustic” is the layer of laminate between the two layers of glass that comprise your windshield. The laminate material in the middle of acoustic glass absorbs more sound and transmits less noise into the cabin of your vehicle. Both layers of glass in the windshield and the acoustic laminate in between should be very nearly identical, regardless of whether or not Pilkington or PPG made it.
4. 1934 ford windshield repair – We thought might be ZZ top in need of a Windshield Repair, but we were confused and realized that although the 1934 Ford Roadster looks really cool,

It’s not ‘The Eliminator’ from ZZ TOP. The car was featured in some of the best videos from the 80’s by ZZ Top. The car now lives in the rock and roll hall of fame.
5. New windshield care – We’re not sure who is looking for this – maybe someone here at TeleGlass, but this is the type of search that is full of windshield love that we like to see. These are drivers who are thinking about their relationship with their windshields and how they can be proactive in keeping it clean and safe. We advise to treat your windshield with care and keep it clean and wash it once a week but don’t pamper it too much or it will expect that kind of treatment all the time. Make sure you have your windshield fluid fully filled as we head into the winter months and don’t scrape too hard when the ice starts to form.

A chipped windshield isn’t a big deal, right? It’s only a small chip in your auto glass. A few weeks later you notice that the little ding has turned into a crack that continues to spread until it encompasses a good part of your windshield. You should be worried.
Damaged windshields should always be fixed, no matter how small the glass repair. Driving with any type of chip or crack can seriously put your life and the lives of your passengers in danger. First, the windshield is an integral part of the air bag deployment system. If an accident occurs, the windshield supports the inflation and performance of the passenger side air bags. Therefore, any damages to the automobile glass will reduce the effectiveness of the air bag system, most likely a chance you don’t want to risk. Also, the crack may continue to spread, which will obstruct your view and could cause an accident. If you are in a crash, the glass will most likely shatter because the existing chip or crack has already weakened the internal structure.
The next problem is your small windshield repair could turn into paying for costly replacement glass. Once you see a chip, get it fixed immediately through a respected auto glass repair company such as TeleGlass. When repairing your windshield, we adhere to both the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and the Auto Glass Replacement Safety Standards (AGRSS).

Do you find it a nuisance when someone leaves a leaflet on your windshield? It might be best to take a new Zen approach to these leaflets because recently the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco declared that citizens have a constitutional right to distribute such literature. It seems that leaflets on auto glass are here to stay.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, “A Southern California city’s ban on placing leaflets on car windshields parked in the street can’t be justified as an anti-littering measure and probably violates free speech.” The city of San Clemente, located in Orange County, had an ordinance that punished those who distributed leaflets on automobile glass, citing that it was a form of litter. Recently a group of citizens were told they couldn’t distribute immigration literature on windshields. They contested the ordinance in court, and won. Apparently, it is in direct violation of free speech and does not warrant an anti-littering cause.
At TeleGlass, we keep a watchful eye on stories such as this one because anything that touches your glass is our business. Besides the usual windshield repair or replacement glass, we focus on trends, unusual news stories, safety standard updates and many industry-related topics as well as auto glass repair. If you are need of an auto glass repair though, you’re just a few clicks away from a confirmed auto glass appointment.

What is safe drive away time? It is a phrase you must understand when choosing an auto glass shop to replace your windshield. Safe Drive Away Time (SDAT) is the amount of time an adhesive requires to reach the level of strength necessary to safely hold a windshield in place in the event of a crash. The adhesive is the bonding agent auto glass companies use to seal your new windshield to your vehicle. There are many different adhesives a glass company can use and specific instructions they should follow for it to work correctly on your vehicle. Sika (a manufacturer of windshield adhesives) pioneered the concept of SDAT to the AGR industry in the early 1990’s, so I decided to include their web-site that has a great video that explains this concept.
