The Greater Boston Area has been hit by 2 “100 year floods” in the last month. The latest storm, Saturday, July 10, dumped almost 4 inches of rain in under 90 minutes. In Somerville (near Boston) a driver was trapped in a tunnel just around the corner from her house, this much rain results in the kind of apocalyptic-looking flood that swallows cars, cows, and anything else in its way. We’re just not used to seeing this type of flash flooding this close to Boston.
Driving a car through a “road-river” can be extremely damaging to your car. It’s also very dangerous, and should be avoided at all costs. If you cannot find a safe place to park your car, be mindful of rushing rocks, tree limbs, and other hazardous objects that can crack your auto glass, and potentially impair your visibility.
Existing damage, and the damage your auto glass could sustain from a flash-flood, should be fixed immediately, as weather stops for no one.
If we have another flood this summer, we can hope the city is well equipped to deal with it, but if you’re on the road, heading over a hill into a water pit that was minutes earlier an intersection, street or driveway, best be prepared with a well-tuned car and safe, strong auto glass. If your auto glass damaged and you need an auto glass replacement is the consequence of stormy weather, please contact TeleGlass today.

Not all states offer glass specific policies, but Louisiana has joined the ranks.
Governor Bobby Jindal signed a bill that allowed vehicle insurers to offer specific policies to cover windshield damage. This sounds a lot like the coverage I had added to my policy when I lived in Arizona… and I loved that coverage. Made auto glass claims a breeze!

First the House passed it. Then the Senate amended it and passed the bill, and sent it back to the House. The House has now passed the revised version, and it’s now just waiting for Governor Jan Brewer’s signature. What am I talking about?
We’ve talked previously about this bill. We had guests here at Seeing Clearly say they don’t like it one bit because it targets the glass industry. We had other guests talk about the people we lovingly refer to as creepy windshield stalkers, and offer their opinion that if it weren’t for high pressure salespeople trying to push repairs that insurance policy holders don’t want or need, this legislation wouldn’t be needed.
In any case, you can find the language here. Here are the highlights again:
- It is unlawful for a person who sells or repairs auto glass to knowingly submit a false claim to an insurer for auto glass repair, replacement, or for related services.
- Bills for services that were not provided cannot be submitted.
- It is illegal to say you did work in one place when you really did it in another geographic area.
- You cannot file a claim not authorized in writing by the owner of the vehicle.
- You cannot put one date on the invoice or claim if the work was done on another date.
- You cannot “falsely sign” a work order on behalf of a policyholder (no forging the customer’s signature).
- You cannot “misrepresent” your relationship to the insurance company or the cost of the repairs. You cannot tell people that the insurance company has approved a repair unless that is true.
- You cannot make a statement on behalf of the insurance company regarding the coverage for the glass claim, including telling someone that their repair will be entirely paid for or done at no cost.
- You cannot add damage to the auto glass to increase the scope of the repairs needed.
- You cannot do work that is beyond what is required to repair/replace the auto glass.
We think that Arizona politics is a strange brew. In point of fact, after living in Arizona for over thirty years, I’m amazed any legislation passes both the house and the senate, but that’s a story for another blog.
Regardless, this bill has now passed both the House and the Senate, and appears headed for the Governor’s signature.
In the end, I’m guessing that this will have next to zero impact on reputable businesses, but as always, we welcome your comments.

So you bought an XM or Sirius radio. You love your purchase, but can’t stand the wire that extends from the radio to the roof antenna? And the magnetic antenna leaves horrible marks on the roof of your car. You’ve had enough. Thus, enter the world of the windshield mounted radio antenna.
The antenna works by suction mount. The suction is so heavy-duty that in most cases, it can withstand almost twenty pounds, thus holding iPODs, GPS and PDA devices. The antenna suctions to windshields with a simple mounting plate of magnetic strips and will not fall from the auto glass once mounted properly. Additionally, the mounting plate can be angled up or down. The antenna will not scratch your automobile or cause you any type of windshield repair. In the future, if you have an auto glass repair or replacement glass, you can simple take down the antenna before the work has to be done. After the glass repair is finished, you can easily put the antenna back on in one quick step.
The benefits seem to outweigh the negatives. The antenna is stored on the inside of your automobile glass, so theft is virtually nonexistent compared to a standard roof antenna. Lastly, the antenna is small, taking up very little space and not obstructing the driver’s view at all.

Head-up Display or HUD on cars is the new wave of the future. HUD is a transparent display on your windshield that has informational data so that the driver does not need to look away from her/his viewpoint. This type of system is most common in military aircraft, but is now contained in certain standard automobiles. In 1988 General Motors began using HUD, and in 2001 Corvette installed the first color display. The system commonly displays speedometer, tachometer and the navigation system.
In HUD the image reflects directly off the car’s automobile glass, right below the driver’s line of vision. Therefore, windshields that have HUD are specially coated to properly reflect the image. Nowadays car companies such as General Motors, Honda, Toyota and Lexus offer night vision HUD as well. For the technologically advanced, even motorcycle helmets can have HUD. Many users of this system love it because they don’t have to look down to see their speed or change a radio station, if this latter feature is on the HUD. In general, HUD can prevent accidents thereby preventing serious injury and an extensive auto glass repair such as a windshield repair or full replacement glass.
The sophistication of the HUD depends on the car. For example, the Pontiac Bonneville may only show a digital speedometer and turn signal icons versus a Chevrolet Corvette which displays features such as tachometer, coolant temperature and fuel level readings. Besides American cars, BMV has become the leader of putting HUD in its cars.
Using your auto glass for more than to see the open road is a bonus for drivers who want to stay focused on what’s in front of them. However, if you do need a HUD Windshield replaced, don’t hesitate to contact us here at TeleGlass for any of your glass repair needs.

This winter at TeleGlass we wanted to take the time to remind you that a little caution can go along way to help avoid freak car accidents and damaged auto glass. Freak car accidents can happen anytime, anywhere. Many times, you turn on the news and say to yourself, that could never happen to me. These types of situations can happen to anyone. And they often can happen when you are not buckled in because you are on a short errand or you are close to home.
First we want to take the time to remind you to always wear your seat belts even if you are close to home. If you’ve ever been in accident, the sound of smashing automobile glass stays in your head for quite a long time. You drive slowly and carefully, but then the memory fades and you’re back to speedy and careless driving.
There have been many freak accidents that involve windshields. For example, many years ago a New Jersey man was driving behind a truck full of tools. One fell off, crashed through the windshield and hit him square in the eyes. The man lost sight in both eyes forever. In a more recent occurrence just outside of Chicago, a man named Peter Morano was driving to work in early January 2010 when ice and snow slid off a semi-truck and smashed into his windshield. Auto glass and blood was everywhere. Morano suffered serious facial injuries, yet the most harrowing is that he might not see out of his left eye again.
Other accidents include driving through store front windows. This often happens when the driver thinks s/he has the car in reverse and steps on the gas. The driver zooms forward instead, jumping the sidewalk and crashing through the storefront window. There also have been instances of drivers having medical conditions, such as epilepsy, and having a sudden seizure while driving and hitting other vehicles or passerby. Drivers have been known to have strokes or heart attacks while behind the wheel as well. A freak accident is something you simply cannot predict, and many times, the driver may not be at fault.
At TeleGlass, safety comes first with us. Always wear your seat belts and always be saftey concious. This is how we approach each and every auto glass repair or install. We want to ensure that any windshield repair or other type of glass repair is done properly. With any auto glass repair or replacement glass, we adhere to the highest safety standards. Please set up an appointment at TeleGlass.com today so we can put safety first for you.

What’s the best way to defrost your auto glass in the morning? Imagine this scenario. You’re about to leave your house and it is freezing cold. You dread those extra fifteen minutes each morning waiting for your car to heat up. There is an easy solution to your problem. Try a remote starter.
Remote starters are used to preheat cars in the winter and pre-cool cars in the summer. A remote starter is a small device that allows you to turn on the car from usually around 1000 feet away. It is excellent for the winter months, since you can start your car ten to fifteen minutes before getting in. Additionally, your windshield will not go through that awkward fogging phase while driving . Instead, the automobile glass will have already cleared by the time you get in the vehicle.
Installing a remote starter is simple. There are no wires. Also, most starters come with keyless entry options, in other words, you can unlock and unlock your doors from 1000 feet away. Some starters even come with panic buttons for safety. Other features can include: a remote to pop the trunk, car finder function and a remote to control headlights.
Here at TeleGlass, we think remote starters are a great idea to keep warm and safe and your auto glass clear. However, if you do have a crack in the windshield and are in need of a glass repair, please contact us today. Windshields are our specialty. For a windshield repair, our highly skilled technicians will fix your auto glass quickly and efficiently. We guarantee it. So please visit TeleGlass.com and check us out!

Usually when we think of auto glass or windshields, we think “windshield repair” or maybe full replacement glass, but never a cause of blindness. However, that is exactly what is happening to one Illinois man, who was driving on the wrong road at the wrong time.
According to WLS-TV Chicago, owned by ABC, in a story named, “Ice shatters windshield, injures man’s face” by Karen Jordan, Peter Morano, a man from a suburb of Chicago, may lose sight in one eye due to a freak accident. As Morano was driving to work in early January 2010, snow and ice slid off a semi-truck and smashed directly into his windshield. The result was not a simple auto glass repair. Instead, Morano suffered broken facial bones, a broken nose, stitches and yet the most harrowing consequence is that he may not see out of his left eye again.
The truck most likely did not know what occurred, according to Morano, thus it kept on driving. In a sea of blood and automobile glass, and fighting through horrifying pain, a group of good Samaritans helped Morano, even comforting his wife at the hospital. The less severe injuries are healing; however, doctors will not know for six months if Morano can ever see out of his left eye again. Overall though, Peter Morano and his wife are just happy he’s alive.
Accidents like these do occur. And more frequently than we think. If you are involved in an accident and in need of a glass repair company, please contact us at TeleGlass. We put safety first, ensuring the highest quality of auto glass to repair your car. Please visit us at TeleGlass.com to set up an appointment today.

When you are driving, it is important to keep your windshield clean and free of debris. Windshields need to be taken care of in order to maintain safe driving habits on the road. You can start to maintain your automobile glass by refilling windshield wiper fluid when it is low. Wiper fluid comes in a few forms; for example, you can buy it as a liquid, in crystal form to be diluted with water or a mixture of fluid and antifreeze. Once poured into your vehicle, there is a control in the steering wheel area that pumps the fluid onto the auto glass. The windshield wipers are then used to wipe the glass clean. Many vehicles nowadays have this feature on the back windshield as well.
Antifreeze is a good component to mix with wiper fluid. In colder climates, ice or frost can accumulate on the windshield, causing the driver to scrape the glass. However, antifreeze can eliminate this time-consuming process by squirting the fluid onto the windshield and de-icing it. Your windshield should always be free of snow and ice, otherwise it can crack, causing you an auto glass repair. If the crack is not immediately fixed, it could spread into a larger crevice and full replacement glass may be the next step.
If you are in need of a windshield repair or any other type of auto glass repair, please contact us here at TeleGlass.com. Its been a while since we had some of my quality artwork, and since I came to the end of my rope this morning about how bad these creepy windshield stalkers are I figured a visual will help get the point across of why not to use these types of shops.
Most of these scenarios start when you are doing a regular errand, such as going to the grocery store or the car wash. These people will literally break your windshield so they can get a commission for having it replaced. You see, most of the time they aren’t even employed by the company they say they work for. They’re an “independent contractor” out to make some cash by getting a commission to replace your windshield. They make a business of being in the right place at the right time.
Our crack investigative team has discovered that windshields don’t just break themselves when these people are around. We have received reports about people breaking windshields just to get a $25 commission. Please read our “based on true events” dramatization to see how easy it is to get duped.
Here we have poor unsuspecting Gomez enjoying a nice car wash. Little does he know that a creepy windshield stalker is just waiting under a rock to pop out and cause havoc!

As soon as you try to leave the creepy windshield stalker jumps out and tells you something scary that makes you stop. I imagine it like my next fine drawing.

At this point, many people will stop and see what this crazy person is talking about. They will tell a potential customer anything, make up fake laws, tell them lies about windshield safety, anything to make a sale.

This creepy windshield stalker will sweet talk these poor unsuspecting customers until they get their way. Many people think it’s free, and don’t see that these creeps are calling their insurance companies. These companies are very crafty and have each of these “independent” contractors sign a waiver for each claim they pull in stating that they are liable if the claim is found to be fraudulent. Any company that makes each of their “employees” sign a waiver for each claim they produce is BAD NEWS. If they company will not stand behind their employees, will they stand behind their repair?
If I had it my way, we could have TG, the TeleNinja, go out and put a stop to these people before they rake in another unsuspecting consumer. Until that day happens, be careful of these people and always protect yourself from windshield and auto glass fraud.
