Today we’d like to share a pretty cool idea the folks over at Seventeen Magazine have drummed up. They’re holding a contest in which they ask their readers to create videos explaining the dangers of distracted driving.
It only takes two seconds to turn your cell phone off, thereby avoiding the chance of you being distracted behind the wheel… or two seconds of reading a text message to get in an accident.

A little preventative maintenance can go a long way to preventing any problems on your next road trip. It’s Friday afternoon and you are getting the troops in the car for a long weekend at a destination of your choice within 50 to 100 miles of where you live. Just far enough away so that if you get stranded it can be a real hassle. You have gas, snacks and you even stopped to make sure you have an iced coffee for the trip.
Have you done any advanced planning to keep your car and auto glass clean and ready for the road? First things first make sure your car is ready to roll. You have enough gas, your tires look good, and your lights and hazards work. It’s also great to bring a safety kit so you have flares, a flash light and any other necessary emergency items (don’t forget your cell phone). You should check your oil, check your wipers, belts and washer fluid.
Remember it is during the warmer months when a sudden thunderstorm can appear and if your wipers are cracked or wearing down, they won’t be able to remove the water and dirt from you windshield, not only it is more likely to scratch or crack, and it’s not safe to drive with an unclear windshield. Nobody wants to break down on a trip – it’s not fun, and let’s face it, everyone blames the driver when there is a problem, even if its out of their control.
If you have problems with your auto glass (whether you are on a road trip or not), please contact TeleGlass today for all your auto glass repair needs.

John Beagle shared this photo of Bethany Beach with us. We had a funny time when we cropped this one… it really changes the composition. I hope you still like the effect.
We just got a little too much sun in our eyes with any other crop! John, thanks for sharing with us. I think it’s a great addition to our Delaware windshield page! Much obliged.

It’s pretty cold in Washington, DC, but when we went looking for a new photo for our Washington, DC auto glass page, we found this:
Doesn’t that look like a nice warm day? Once we’ve done our usual cropping, our Washington DC windshield page looks like this:
Big thanks to timomcd from Flickr for use of his photo.

This week we are introducing the The TeleGlass Top Five. Each week we will give a quick round up of some of the more interesting and odd search terms related to Auto Glass Repair and Windshield Repair that have lead users to Seeing Clearing – The Auto Glass Blog.
Here’s This Week’s TeleGlass Top Five
How much force does it take to break a windshield?
Leaky windshields
Acoustic auto glass
1934 ford windshield repair
New windshield care
1. How much force does it take to break a windshield? – This is an important question often asked and answered by auto glass professionals, stunt men and car thieves across the country. Stay tuned for the answer in an upcoming TeleGlass video episode as we try different methods of breaking and repairing auto glass.
2. Leaky windshields – this is a condition that occurs often with older windshields, but it is not always something that’s easy to admit. It’s a very personal matter. Sometimes windshields leak and when it’s time for a windshield to go – it’s time to go.
3. Acoustic auto glass – face it some auto glass sounds better than others. What makes a windshield “acoustic” is the layer of laminate between the two layers of glass that comprise your windshield. The laminate material in the middle of acoustic glass absorbs more sound and transmits less noise into the cabin of your vehicle. Both layers of glass in the windshield and the acoustic laminate in between should be very nearly identical, regardless of whether or not Pilkington or PPG made it.
4. 1934 ford windshield repair – We thought might be ZZ top in need of a Windshield Repair, but we were confused and realized that although the 1934 Ford Roadster looks really cool,
It’s not ‘The Eliminator’ from ZZ TOP. The car was featured in some of the best videos from the 80’s by ZZ Top. The car now lives in the rock and roll hall of fame.
5. New windshield care – We’re not sure who is looking for this – maybe someone here at TeleGlass, but this is the type of search that is full of windshield love that we like to see. These are drivers who are thinking about their relationship with their windshields and how they can be proactive in keeping it clean and safe. We advise to treat your windshield with care and keep it clean and wash it once a week but don’t pamper it too much or it will expect that kind of treatment all the time. Make sure you have your windshield fluid fully filled as we head into the winter months and don’t scrape too hard when the ice starts to form.

For me, I knew I was getting older when driving at night was no longer fun and has since become dreaded. Almost anything at night is scary by nature. We are taught that monsters and the boogeyman “go bump in the night” as small children. As we grow up and realize that all of this is fictional, other concerns take over at night, especially that of night driving. There are many precautions to be taken to avoid car crashes, especially if you are a new driver or teenager driver who does not have a lot of night driving experience.
Though it seems obvious, the first thing is to drive alert and awake. Falling asleep behind the wheel is a serious cause of car accidents in this country, and a major source of damage to vehicles such as auto glass repair, windshield repair or full replacement glass. A glass repair is fixable; however, a driver’s head smashing into a windshield may not be. Use your judgment. If you are so exhausted that you cannot drive, then don’t. Get a good night’s sleep and wait until the morning. If you must drive, drink caffeine or eat something with high caffeine content such as dark chocolate. Crack open windows for fresh, cool air and avoid putting on the heater, which allows for fatigue.
Experts also say to keep your eyes moving, constantly scanning for flashes of light that indicate oncoming cars. Make sure to keep your auto glass, including windshields and windows, and headlights clean, thus decreasing glare and increasing efficiency. To avoid glare as much as possible, do not look directly into oncoming headlights. If you are driving with an extremely pitted windshield, it may be time to consider a replacement as the pitting can actually exagerate the glare.
Finally, make sure to be a courteous night driver. Avoid using high beams with oncoming traffic. For the other driver, the beams shine through their automobile glass and blind them temporarily. And in fog, though you may think you need high beams, it is the opposite. Use your low beams so other drivers can see as well.

Two decades . . .It sounds so ominous but it’s true. As of May 2009, I will have spent 19 years in the auto glass industry. Over the course of my career, I have been asked what drew me to this industry.
Was it the dynamic business culture? Or the passionate people? Or the drive to provide unbelievable customer service?
