Whether you have a garage, a driveway, or park your car on the street, objects sometimes “fall out of the sky.” If your garage light-fixture falls onto and cracks your laminated glass windshield, your roommate’s truck door slams into your compact car’s door window, or a maniac throws a beer bottle at your back tempered glass window while speeding down your neighborhood road, you can call TeleGlass for trusted, fast service.
TeleGlass has the auto glass you need and is prepared at all times to help you when you need quick and professional service, and fine quality glass. No matter how the cookie crumbles (or glass), our auto glass is built to protect the driver and passengers if it should break. Laminated glass will crack under extreme pressure so when you’re driving down highway out West, falling rocks threatening each bend, you’re as safe as possible behind it. It will not shatter except under extreme impact. Tempered glass is not as strong as windshield laminated glass because the position of the side and back windows poses a lesser risk. It is, however, designed to break into small cube-like chunks that aren’t jagged or very sharp.
No matter what objects are mysteriously flying at your car, be prepared with high quality auto glass from TeleGlass, and ask for one of our trained service persons takes care of all your questions and to replace your auto glass.

Volvo has advanced its auto-break function, available in certain 2009-10 models to include sensors that will trigger an automatic stop for pedestrians. Referred to as the “City Safe” system, laser technology stops the car at speeds of up to 22 MPH. Like any technology, however, there is room for error; sometimes the car does not sense the obstacle, human or inanimate, plowing into it. While the technology is useful, it also may encourage lackadaisical driving (or even texting-while-driving), because the driver might think paying attention isn’t as important, especially in slow, stop and go “city traffic.”
When the technology fails, any number of obstacles can break the car’s windshield. Bicyclists, pedestrians and stationary objects will not always illicit an auto-break, and might damage auto glass. Whatever the cause, auto glass should be repaired as soon as possible. TeleGlass will fix your old or damaged auto glass anytime, anywhere.

Occasionally, we come across information that we think might be useful from other members of the Internet community. Today’s one of those days, with a guest post written by Donald Ladew from Norman Taylor & Associates.
Not all auto glass repair problems are caused by chunks of debris fired off the back end of a big rig. We have a variety of lemon law customers who need some sort of windshield repair.
One of the more interesting incidents occurred in an RV that had structural defects. The coach had excessive flex which reached forward to the windshield area. On one occasion, the consumer was driving on a bumpy freeway. The area around the windshield flexed in such a way that the glass was actually ejected from the vehicle intact onto the freeway, after which it was no longer intact. Following this event, he complained of wind noise. He had an amazing sense of humor. This incident eventually became a lemon law case; it did so because it happened repeatedly.
The California Lemon Law may cover the following kinds of windshield defects:
Problems with seals – drying out, improperly installed
Leaks – similar to the above but of a nature to allow water to leak into the vehicle
Wind noise – due to back seal installation or even body torque or flex
Cracks – often caused by body torque or flex
Dealerships, not being auto glass experts, when faced with this sort of repair will often tell the consumer that windshield repairs are an insurance matter rather than a defect inherent to the manufacture or assembly of the vehicle. If they can get away with this, they won’t have to pay for a warranty repair, they simply pass it on to the insurance company.
It’s usually simple enough to determine if it is something of interest to a lemon law attorney or to auto glass experts handling an insurance claim. Applying the lemon law, Norman Taylor & Associates deals with repeating defects that occur over and over and haven’t been repaired. Hopefully this would not be the case with stressed-caused cracks that occur once which are normally handled as an insurance matter.

One of the challenges that your auto glass will face, no matter where you are, is weather. The seasons can win the battle against your auto glass – too much heat, too much cold can lead to additional hazards for your windshield.
It’s often the time in between the seasons when the weather can change drastically and storms and weather patterns can appear. In May and June when it can be really hot one day, and really cool the next, there is a chance there can be thunderstorms. A major hazard to your auto glass is hail. Most of us know what hail is but not everyone has seen it. Large hail is a rarely seen occurrence. The larger the hail the more likely it can damage not only your windshield but also rest of your car.
Hail is a form of solid precipitation and happens when balls of ice form that measure between 5 millimeters (0.20 in) and 150 millimeters (5.9 in) in diameter. Hail can happen with most thunderstorms as it is produced by thunderclouds at the beginning of a storm.
In order for hail to form there needs to a strong upward current of air and cold air drops down. It mostly occurs during the summer months and in the late afternoon hours of the day.
If you are on the road during a server thunderstorm or hailstorm it is to pull over and seek shelter, such as a garage or underground garage. If the hail stones fall fast enough and long enough they could cause damage to you windshield and cause a chip or crack that will need to be fixed.
If you do encounter any large hail, stay safe and if you can please send us a photo, and let us know if hail causes any damage to you auto glass. We’ll be happy to fix it for you.

I think the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety makes a very good case for limiting “low speed vehicles” (LSVs) from the nation’s roadways.
While it’s true that they serve a purpose in some gated communities, once they join public roads, they become a hazard to their occupants. Take a look, and see if you don’t agree.

Okay… that was random, but there you have it. Here in the USA, it’s National Space Day. With the space shuttle program scheduled to end this year, and the Constellation program’s cancellation proposed by President Obama, there may be less to be optimistic about than normally… but if you have a telescope, get out there and point it at the stars.

You may have noticed we’ve cut way back on what was, at one point, a frenetic pace of blog posting.
That doesn’t mean we’re going away… we had some pretty big technology upgrades we released for our insurance company clients, and with any new software upgrades, you have the usual kinks to work out. When you write your own software, you are your own help line! We’ve been pretty busy… and the blog has been relegated to the back burner.
We’ll be resuming a more regular blog posting schedule soon. Not six days a week, mind you, but more than four or five times a month.
Thanks for reading!

So you bought an XM or Sirius radio. You love your purchase, but can’t stand the wire that extends from the radio to the roof antenna? And the magnetic antenna leaves horrible marks on the roof of your car. You’ve had enough. Thus, enter the world of the windshield mounted radio antenna.
The antenna works by suction mount. The suction is so heavy-duty that in most cases, it can withstand almost twenty pounds, thus holding iPODs, GPS and PDA devices. The antenna suctions to windshields with a simple mounting plate of magnetic strips and will not fall from the auto glass once mounted properly. Additionally, the mounting plate can be angled up or down. The antenna will not scratch your automobile or cause you any type of windshield repair. In the future, if you have an auto glass repair or replacement glass, you can simple take down the antenna before the work has to be done. After the glass repair is finished, you can easily put the antenna back on in one quick step.
The benefits seem to outweigh the negatives. The antenna is stored on the inside of your automobile glass, so theft is virtually nonexistent compared to a standard roof antenna. Lastly, the antenna is small, taking up very little space and not obstructing the driver’s view at all.

I’m not busting out the old soap box picture again. Instead, I’ll quote an article I found on line the other day.
“…following are the steps you need to follow for starting a rock chip repair business. First, you need to carefully select the company from which you will purchase the windshield repair kit. This is the basic thing you require to start this business. Second, you need to acquire a business license and have liability insurance. After this you should first start practicing on a used windshield. Carefully read the instructions printed on the manual you receive with your windshield repair kit.”
Does this scare you, even a little? If you’re considering having a rock chip fixed, it might…
I know it gives me a little bit of concern, but then I remember that Michelle Chalmers is all over this. She’s so picky! We get emails all the time from glass shops asking to be connected to our Web site. Most of them don’t make the grade.
Part of it is our advanced technology. If you’re “booking an appointment” on one of our competitors’ sites, chances are you’re really just sending a request. What’s the difference? We used advanced connectivity to our glass shop partners, so we only offer appointments that are available. This is the difference between being placed in the calendar to have the work done and sending someone an e-mail asking if they’ll get around to putting you in the calendar. It’s a small detail, but we think it makes a big difference.
Because we’re so enthusiastic about this connectivity, the glass shops we do business with have to have a commitment to the technology, too. Many glass shops do not meet our minimum requirements, and therefore cannot join.
Sometimes that means a glass shop we really like is ineligible to be on our site. We’ll still do business with them (we book thousands of repairs every month), just not as part of the on-line experience that you enjoy here.
But that’s not all Michelle checks. She’s looking for shops that have been in the business for a while. Not just someone who read a two page article on the web about how to start a chip repair business. To pass her test, you have to commit to specific safety and quality standards. You have to be experienced. You have to have an established space in your business community.
She’s tough!
It makes me feel safe. It makes me comfortable booking with TeleGlass, because I know that she did all the hard work picking out a shop for me. Thanks, Michelle!

This winter at TeleGlass we wanted to take the time to remind you that a little caution can go along way to help avoid freak car accidents and damaged auto glass. Freak car accidents can happen anytime, anywhere. Many times, you turn on the news and say to yourself, that could never happen to me. These types of situations can happen to anyone. And they often can happen when you are not buckled in because you are on a short errand or you are close to home.
First we want to take the time to remind you to always wear your seat belts even if you are close to home. If you’ve ever been in accident, the sound of smashing automobile glass stays in your head for quite a long time. You drive slowly and carefully, but then the memory fades and you’re back to speedy and careless driving.
There have been many freak accidents that involve windshields. For example, many years ago a New Jersey man was driving behind a truck full of tools. One fell off, crashed through the windshield and hit him square in the eyes. The man lost sight in both eyes forever. In a more recent occurrence just outside of Chicago, a man named Peter Morano was driving to work in early January 2010 when ice and snow slid off a semi-truck and smashed into his windshield. Auto glass and blood was everywhere. Morano suffered serious facial injuries, yet the most harrowing is that he might not see out of his left eye again.
Other accidents include driving through store front windows. This often happens when the driver thinks s/he has the car in reverse and steps on the gas. The driver zooms forward instead, jumping the sidewalk and crashing through the storefront window. There also have been instances of drivers having medical conditions, such as epilepsy, and having a sudden seizure while driving and hitting other vehicles or passerby. Drivers have been known to have strokes or heart attacks while behind the wheel as well. A freak accident is something you simply cannot predict, and many times, the driver may not be at fault.
At TeleGlass, safety comes first with us. Always wear your seat belts and always be saftey concious. This is how we approach each and every auto glass repair or install. We want to ensure that any windshield repair or other type of glass repair is done properly. With any auto glass repair or replacement glass, we adhere to the highest safety standards. Please set up an appointment at TeleGlass.com today so we can put safety first for you.
