windshield-chipIn today’s installment of Ask TeleGlass, we’re taking a question from the Web about the quality of windshield repairs. Duke, who used another shop asked,

How good is the windshield repair process. I have a chip like a watermelon pit. The guy came out and it looks?

It looks worse now. I thought they virtually make it “NEW” again. It is a small chip. I think the guy just didnt know how to do the process.

Duke has a common question, so we thought we’d take a stab at it.

This post is for my mother.

I was chatting with Mom on my way home from work the other day, as I am often wont to do, and the topic of cruise control came up. Mom said, “Don’t forget what I always say, don’t use your cruise control in the rain!” (Yes, I was using my hands free device).

Read on to hear why Mom’s advice is so important!

Have you ever taken a long drive on a beautiful sunny day?  Refreshed, pulling back into your driveway, you suddenly notice that the left side of your face is . . . burned?

Unfortunately, this is one hazard of auto glass: UV rays.  The harmful transmission of light can penetrate right through a windshield and the driver’s side automobile glass.  Glass can only filter UVB radiation – not UVA. It is possible to install windshield replacement glass that has a higher tint level, though it must follow the laws of each state.  Excluding windshields, glass is tinted to 70% VLT or Visible Light Transmitted, which is the usual tint put on new factory cars these days. You can have your auto glass replaced for this if you have a history of skin cancer in your family or are simply concerned about UV rays.

TeleGlass can help with all of your auto glass repair needs. If this is an auto glass repair you would like to inquire further about, please contact us here at TeleGlass.  Please note though that windshield repair for UV rays is heavily regulated in the US, and if you prefer a darker tint (similar to limousine), you are possibly risking being pulled over and fined by the police.

Who doesn’t love a “great” top ten list? I don’t anticipate this list making you laugh, but I am hoping it makes you think and ask some questions when you need to choose an auto glass company. You can ask ten, but here are the six that I think are most essential when you need to replace or repair your windshield.

It’s a fact, the windshield is an integral part of the safety restraint system (SRS) in your car.  Your seat belt, air bag and windshield work together to keep you safe. When an airbag  first deploys, the initial impact is made against the windshield. This allows the airbags to deploy in the correct position to cushion passengers. Also, due to new design standards in making cars lighter and more efficient, steel pillars and other reinforcements are no longer used. Instead, windshields are designed to keep the roof from crushing inward in case of a rollover, and may prevent you and your family from being ejected in a serious collision. For these reasons and more I have created a top six list of questions in choosing an auto glass company the next time your windshield needs to be replaced. These are questions I ask when I decide whether or not a glass shop is strong enough to become a member of the TeleGlass family of autoglass providers.

We found this question on the Web, and thought it would be a good one to answer here.

Will a windshield from 1990 Volvo 240 fit in 1992 Volvo 240?

To all my peeps out there that love that brand new car and hate that brand new crack in the windshield, I want to give you some info on what exactly a “dealer windshield” is. On the insurance end of our business we receive calls all the time from customers who have a broken piece of glass and insist on getting a “dealer windshield.”

Lexus for example manufactures cars, but Lexus doesn’t have an auto glass manufacturing plant. Neither does Ford, Toyota, or Honda, so what’s the deal? How is it possible to get a “dealer windshield” when the auto manufacturer doesn’t make their own glass?

I saw a photo in which the Lightning Hybrid was compared to the ’63 Corvette Stingray, and that got me interested in the Lightning. Beyond it’s very unique auto glass, the vehicle itself has lots of very cool features, the least of which is its target fuel efficiency of 100 miles per hour (part of Progressive’s Automotive X Prize). Check it out:

atlantis-windshieldphoto by Matthew Simantov

Associated Content reporter Matt Tyler reports that a small piece of metal has become lodged in between an instrument panel and one of the windshields of space shuttle Atlantis. The issue could end up permanently grounding Atlantis, leaving the craft to be used solely for spare parts for Endeavour and Discovery.
