Seriously… while this is kind of cool, it falls into the “these people have waaaaaay too much time on their hands” category.

We like to write about safety issues and auto glass and how the proper care of your windshield can lend itself to a safer driving experience. One aspect of auto glass that’s not mentioned as much is the side view mirrors and the blind spot. We recently shot a short a video (with TGSC Group Director of Product Management James Lee) about how to improve your range of vision in your vehicle to minimize your blind spot and the chances that you might hit another vehicle. Here’s what to do. You need two vehicles – your vehicle and another car (it can be a parked car in the parking lot.) Get in your car and park it so that you are just ahead of the other vehicle, so that your rear bumper is aligned with the driver side door. You should be about 3-4 feet away from the parked car to simulate the same distance you might be on the highway. From this position adjust your mirror outwards (away from your vehicle) so that you just see the front of the other vehicle. Then leave your mirror where it is. This helps to reduce the blind spot and the chances that you might have an accident when you change lanes because you did not see another car (after you have checked your rear mirror). Safe driving, and remember to do the blind spot test today.

Head-up Display or HUD on cars is the new wave of the future. HUD is a transparent display on your windshield that has informational data so that the driver does not need to look away from her/his viewpoint. This type of system is most common in military aircraft, but is now contained in certain standard automobiles. In 1988 General Motors began using HUD, and in 2001 Corvette installed the first color display. The system commonly displays speedometer, tachometer and the navigation system.
In HUD the image reflects directly off the car’s automobile glass, right below the driver’s line of vision. Therefore, windshields that have HUD are specially coated to properly reflect the image. Nowadays car companies such as General Motors, Honda, Toyota and Lexus offer night vision HUD as well. For the technologically advanced, even motorcycle helmets can have HUD. Many users of this system love it because they don’t have to look down to see their speed or change a radio station, if this latter feature is on the HUD. In general, HUD can prevent accidents thereby preventing serious injury and an extensive auto glass repair such as a windshield repair or full replacement glass.
The sophistication of the HUD depends on the car. For example, the Pontiac Bonneville may only show a digital speedometer and turn signal icons versus a Chevrolet Corvette which displays features such as tachometer, coolant temperature and fuel level readings. Besides American cars, BMV has become the leader of putting HUD in its cars.
Using your auto glass for more than to see the open road is a bonus for drivers who want to stay focused on what’s in front of them. However, if you do need a HUD Windshield replaced, don’t hesitate to contact us here at TeleGlass for any of your glass repair needs.

I’m not busting out the old soap box picture again. Instead, I’ll quote an article I found on line the other day.
“…following are the steps you need to follow for starting a rock chip repair business. First, you need to carefully select the company from which you will purchase the windshield repair kit. This is the basic thing you require to start this business. Second, you need to acquire a business license and have liability insurance. After this you should first start practicing on a used windshield. Carefully read the instructions printed on the manual you receive with your windshield repair kit.”
Does this scare you, even a little? If you’re considering having a rock chip fixed, it might…
I know it gives me a little bit of concern, but then I remember that Michelle Chalmers is all over this. She’s so picky! We get emails all the time from glass shops asking to be connected to our Web site. Most of them don’t make the grade.
Part of it is our advanced technology. If you’re “booking an appointment” on one of our competitors’ sites, chances are you’re really just sending a request. What’s the difference? We used advanced connectivity to our glass shop partners, so we only offer appointments that are available. This is the difference between being placed in the calendar to have the work done and sending someone an e-mail asking if they’ll get around to putting you in the calendar. It’s a small detail, but we think it makes a big difference.
Because we’re so enthusiastic about this connectivity, the glass shops we do business with have to have a commitment to the technology, too. Many glass shops do not meet our minimum requirements, and therefore cannot join.
Sometimes that means a glass shop we really like is ineligible to be on our site. We’ll still do business with them (we book thousands of repairs every month), just not as part of the on-line experience that you enjoy here.
But that’s not all Michelle checks. She’s looking for shops that have been in the business for a while. Not just someone who read a two page article on the web about how to start a chip repair business. To pass her test, you have to commit to specific safety and quality standards. You have to be experienced. You have to have an established space in your business community.
She’s tough!
It makes me feel safe. It makes me comfortable booking with TeleGlass, because I know that she did all the hard work picking out a shop for me. Thanks, Michelle!

I found this question on Yahoo!’s Answers:
My car windshield has a 5-inch horizontal crack starting at the very edge and going toward the center. When I run my hand over it from either the outside or inside of the car, I can’t “feel” the scratch. Why is that?
P.S. I would like to get this repaired before the crack spreads. I dropped by an autoglass repair garage and they told me I had to replace the whole windshield. Is there a way to just repair the crack itself…like the process they use for rock chips? I feel like the mechanic is just trying to take my money.
This is a great two part question.
First, if you can’t feel the crack, it’s because of how the windshield is made. The two layers of glass with a layer of safety laminate in between is designed to keep it’s shape, including holding the layers of glass together after a crack. It’s doing such a good job that you can’t feel the crack (or cut your hand trying to feel it!).
Second, YES. You absolutely can repair a windshield’s crack! The best candidate is a crack that is small enough to be covered by a dollar bill and is not directly in the driver’s vision. A crack repair will fill the crack with a special resin that returns the windshield to its full strength. It will make the crack nearly invisible, but under certain circumstances, you may catch the sun reflecting off the crack. That’s why we do not advise repairing cracks directly in front of the driver.
There are times when a shop might recommend you have the windshield replaced even if it falls under those two criteria. It’s important to ask the shop why, because engaging the repair technician in a dialog will give you the information you need to make a good decision.

There are many unexpected hazards that can befall your auto glass such a stone in the road or a flying obstacle in your path or a random accident. We are warning our TeleGlass winter travelers that if they head up to the north country they need to be careful for deer and moose. In very cold places such as the Northern US and Canada, deer on the roads are a major hazard. Not only are they are hazard in warm weather, but cold weather is even worse because the deer are trying to find a warm place. Often times they end up on the blacktop of roads where the heat is trapped or other odd places a driver is not expecting.
For windshields and auto glass, this is not a good thing. As cute as deer are, once they crash through your windshield, the cuteness has officially subsided. Deer accidents are no laughing matter. They can cause serious injury, even death, or a costly auto glass repair, or even full replacement glass. Skiers, snowboarders, snowmobilers or anyone who drives to the mountains to take part in winter activities should be especially aware of deer. Do not drive fast through heavily wooded areas, especially on icy or partly icy roads. Keep an eye on the woods because deer will pop out at any second. Many times, these animals will run out in the road for no reason at all.
Another problem in very cold climates is moose. Not the most intelligent animals, moose actually walk through house windows and glass doors, not realizing that there is something there. The moose goes crazy, thrashing around the house, destroying everything and possibly injuring or killing the inhabitants. Now imagine what a moose would do to your car. A glass repair would be the least of your problems. Therefore, if you venture up North to the mountains, be very alert at moose crossing signs and, like deer, watch the forest as you drive slowly.
If you happen to get into a bender, here at TeleGlass, we are happy to help repair your auto glass. You may sign up for an appointment online for our mobile technician service to come to your home. You knew you’d see it here, didn’t you?
Watching the big game last Sunday, when you saw this commercial, you probably wondered if your old pal Gomez would be blogging about it.
Now, call me biased, but this has to be the best commercial to come out of the superbowl this year. Tell me whether you agree?

This winter at TeleGlass we wanted to take the time to remind you that a little caution can go along way to help avoid freak car accidents and damaged auto glass. Freak car accidents can happen anytime, anywhere. Many times, you turn on the news and say to yourself, that could never happen to me. These types of situations can happen to anyone. And they often can happen when you are not buckled in because you are on a short errand or you are close to home.
First we want to take the time to remind you to always wear your seat belts even if you are close to home. If you’ve ever been in accident, the sound of smashing automobile glass stays in your head for quite a long time. You drive slowly and carefully, but then the memory fades and you’re back to speedy and careless driving.
There have been many freak accidents that involve windshields. For example, many years ago a New Jersey man was driving behind a truck full of tools. One fell off, crashed through the windshield and hit him square in the eyes. The man lost sight in both eyes forever. In a more recent occurrence just outside of Chicago, a man named Peter Morano was driving to work in early January 2010 when ice and snow slid off a semi-truck and smashed into his windshield. Auto glass and blood was everywhere. Morano suffered serious facial injuries, yet the most harrowing is that he might not see out of his left eye again.
Other accidents include driving through store front windows. This often happens when the driver thinks s/he has the car in reverse and steps on the gas. The driver zooms forward instead, jumping the sidewalk and crashing through the storefront window. There also have been instances of drivers having medical conditions, such as epilepsy, and having a sudden seizure while driving and hitting other vehicles or passerby. Drivers have been known to have strokes or heart attacks while behind the wheel as well. A freak accident is something you simply cannot predict, and many times, the driver may not be at fault.
At TeleGlass, safety comes first with us. Always wear your seat belts and always be saftey concious. This is how we approach each and every auto glass repair or install. We want to ensure that any windshield repair or other type of glass repair is done properly. With any auto glass repair or replacement glass, we adhere to the highest safety standards. Please set up an appointment at TeleGlass.com today so we can put safety first for you.

What’s the best way to defrost your auto glass in the morning? Imagine this scenario. You’re about to leave your house and it is freezing cold. You dread those extra fifteen minutes each morning waiting for your car to heat up. There is an easy solution to your problem. Try a remote starter.
Remote starters are used to preheat cars in the winter and pre-cool cars in the summer. A remote starter is a small device that allows you to turn on the car from usually around 1000 feet away. It is excellent for the winter months, since you can start your car ten to fifteen minutes before getting in. Additionally, your windshield will not go through that awkward fogging phase while driving . Instead, the automobile glass will have already cleared by the time you get in the vehicle.
Installing a remote starter is simple. There are no wires. Also, most starters come with keyless entry options, in other words, you can unlock and unlock your doors from 1000 feet away. Some starters even come with panic buttons for safety. Other features can include: a remote to pop the trunk, car finder function and a remote to control headlights.
Here at TeleGlass, we think remote starters are a great idea to keep warm and safe and your auto glass clear. However, if you do have a crack in the windshield and are in need of a glass repair, please contact us today. Windshields are our specialty. For a windshield repair, our highly skilled technicians will fix your auto glass quickly and efficiently. We guarantee it. So please visit TeleGlass.com and check us out!

Usually when we think of auto glass or windshields, we think “windshield repair” or maybe full replacement glass, but never a cause of blindness. However, that is exactly what is happening to one Illinois man, who was driving on the wrong road at the wrong time.
According to WLS-TV Chicago, owned by ABC, in a story named, “Ice shatters windshield, injures man’s face” by Karen Jordan, Peter Morano, a man from a suburb of Chicago, may lose sight in one eye due to a freak accident. As Morano was driving to work in early January 2010, snow and ice slid off a semi-truck and smashed directly into his windshield. The result was not a simple auto glass repair. Instead, Morano suffered broken facial bones, a broken nose, stitches and yet the most harrowing consequence is that he may not see out of his left eye again.
The truck most likely did not know what occurred, according to Morano, thus it kept on driving. In a sea of blood and automobile glass, and fighting through horrifying pain, a group of good Samaritans helped Morano, even comforting his wife at the hospital. The less severe injuries are healing; however, doctors will not know for six months if Morano can ever see out of his left eye again. Overall though, Peter Morano and his wife are just happy he’s alive.
Accidents like these do occur. And more frequently than we think. If you are involved in an accident and in need of a glass repair company, please contact us at TeleGlass. We put safety first, ensuring the highest quality of auto glass to repair your car. Please visit us at TeleGlass.com to set up an appointment today.
